having been in A&E several times, both for emergencies
i can say that it's the worse place, at least up here to be if you are ill....
it is witty and so true.
Surely it should just say "Emergencies"? I can stub my toe by accident but I don't think the hospital would be interested.

Good point dave, any accident serious enough to require hospital treatment is by its very nature an emergency.
When the GP's shut and one needs medical attention that's what it has to stand for. Fear of health matters don't wait until the GP hours.
what OG says. Laypersons in a lot of pain can't be expected to know whether it constitutes a medical emergency or not, and if there's no GP able to offer advice within a week, then A&E is a reasonable choice. Though if you've got a walk-in centre, and you can walk, they'd be just as useful.
