Some say that it's okay to sunbathe when you're ten feet away from the next group:

If you go out with people from your own household and do not interact with anyone else, how will this lead to the spread of Covid-19?

I think a part of the no barbecuing/ sunbathing and so on rules is that it takes space away from others. If people are keeping moving they are actually out for less time andf aren't "stealing" time outside from others. If you stop in one place, assuming you have taken your legitimate exercise to get there and will do so to get home, then your sitting/ lying around...

I presume it's because in a public park you can never be sure you're going to stay 10ft from the nearest sufferer, what with people roaming around and coughing all the time.
Bu any response along the lines of "how dare people sunbathe when NHS staff are risking their lives" wins some sort of non sequitur prize.

During the last war it was government advice to take shelter during an air raid. Only spivs and felons ignored it. This virus is worse than a 500 kg bomb. You can't see it or hear it. The police would be better employed in photographing all those who think they are free to risk getting and or spreading this disease and compiling a data base . Back of the queue for an ITU bed and forget a ventilator.
There were youths filmed in Paddington Rec swinging on the monkey bars. It was shown on ITV London News several nights back. The youths were no more than 18" from each other. They told the reporter they had been driving around and saw the Rec and decided to use it as their gym was closed.!!! When asked by the reporter if he thought he was being irresponsible the reply was, "No. I ain't got the disease."
Makes me sick those that think they’re above what’s being asked of them, it’s happened here today , we have a large woodland park which is ‘stiled’ at one end which has been blocked but the other end is open for walkers, the car park at that end is full, people should be fined now , enough is enough
sp1814, this is from the BBC an hour ago (and note where it says guidance)
Government guidance urges people to "stay local", use open spaces near their home and avoid unnecessary travel
Guidance to police says that the public shouldn't be sanctioned for "travelling a reasonable distance to exercise" - although no definition has been given
People should only exercise once a day, although in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland there is no legal ban on exercising more than that. In Wales, which sets its own health regulations, exercising more than once a day is now illegal - and potentially a criminal offence
You can exercise alone or with members of your own household
Gatherings of more than two in parks and public spaces have been banned (ruling out most team sports)
Dogs can be walked as part of a person's daily exercise
It's not specific about driving, or how far you can go, and there's no mention of beauty spots. I assume the police are allowed to make their own rules
eg no Pokemon!

Thanks jno.
I can see that someone could take those instructions and justify going to a local park or running with their dog on a beach, because it would fall into their definition of 'local'.
Perhaps, if the advice actually said that beaches and parks could not be visited, and that local is a specific number of kilometres.
I think the problem that some people have is that one person's definition of 'reasonable exercise' is different from the next person.

In Devon, there was an outcry because a few surfers were in the sea. Can't surf in case you catch Covid. So the police closed the car parks. Then someone decided it was alright to surf if you could walk your surfboard to the beach or take it on your bike (I`d like to see that) Not sure what's happening now. They might have been shamed away from the beach.
I suppose a very large household could have all these cars SP...
