Three Week Old Scald

I badly scaled the back of my right hand three weeks ago. I have had to keep it covered because I kept knocking it or catching it. It is still 'soggy' and not healing. I have not used any kind of cream or anything. How can I help it heal whilst protecting It? It is still deep, red and raw.

What type of dressing have you been using? In my opinion, a Melolin dressing is by far the best in such circumstances. (NB: If you've not used one before, it's the shiny side that goes next to the wound). They're sold in almost all pharmacies, as well as online:

Just waterproof plasters with a bit of padding. Will buy the Melolin tomorrow, thanks

I would pop to the chemist if I were you and let them advise.

When I scalded myself I had to have it dressed at the minor injuries clinic. Burns a prone to infection. I was told not to get the dressing wet.

If you keep plaster on healthy skin it will go as you describe, better with nothing at all and don't knock it.

My scald didn't go like that and mine was the size of the palm of hand.

I think the special plasters you get are breathable.

I poured boiling water over the entire back of my right hand several years ago and minor injuries treated it with Vaseline twice a week with bandages over it.
Then went on to Melolin a few weeks later when it had started to heal.

When you go for the melolin dressing, get the one sticky around the outer edge, trying to stick the others with tape makes putting it on harder, also get some saline to wash it when between dressings.

Thanks for all your advice. I have been to chemist who confirms it is not infected and now have the appropriate Melolin dressings.
