I ventured out this morning (first time since early March),my wife & me are self-isolating and the first thing I encountered were 'nuggets' walking the streeet with no regard for either themselves or anyone else! No masks, gloves or social distancing observation and just to rub things in ,after buying a box of masks and getting home and taking off my gloves, mask and opening the box of masks, only to discover they were made in ....... China!
What chance have we got?

Try not to fret, it's going to be fine.
You don't need gloves. Germs will stay on the gloves like they do your hands, just wash your hands and use hand sanitiser.

It's very hard to social distance walking past someone in the street...
I don’t think wearing mask and gloves is a requirement when you’re just walking along the street, we don’t.
We just cross over or walk into the road if someone approaches and doesn’t look like they’re going to move away.
You just have to avoid other people. Cross the road when you see them coming - I do. Shop early in the morning or near closing time, there seem to be far fewer people out and about then.
social distancing? people cross the road when we're out for our early morning walk, mind you they did that last June ...

Why on earth would anybody wear a mask in the open air.

I just don’t get it.
wearing gloves and mask while going for a walk is NOT the "right thing" Maybe the nuggets you are moaning about are also moaning to their friends about the nugget they came across who didn't social distance from them?
Wear whatever makes you comfortable, wearing a mask/ gloves harms no one.
Hi Grandpappy,
if its the first time youve ventured out since early March, then its understandable you're not up to date with everything. I imagine you're also a little anxious too. Just follow the above x
Question Author
I've read the various comments & 'snide' remarks;really no need!
I'm coming up to 79 & would like to make it to 80+, so if I want to wonder the streets in a TUTU,miners boots in a leopard-skin leotard, provided I don't impede anyone's progress or infect them with anything then why should it concern anyone.
I simply stated that some people don't care.
Well said Grandpappy, you just do what you need to when you and your wife are out
Not easy to keep well apart on some pavements as they're quite narrow, crossing the road sounds easy but hard in traffic or if sight impaired. A large majority of masks on sale are made in China.

Keep doing what you feel safe with.
Its up to you what you choose to do of course.... but its not polite to call others by opprobious epithets because they make different choices out of those that are allowed. Gloves can actually make matters worse. Not only are they no safer than hand skin for picking up and sharing the virus unless you treat them like hand skin but frequent and or prolonged wearing can affect the integrity of your own hand skin and make matters worse. Why would you care that the face coverings are made in China?
The majority of people are trying to the right thing, but versions of the ‘right thing’ seem to vary dramatically. You do what you feel happy with and let others do what they want.
grandpappy, sorry if it was my answer that you felt wasn't right. It is scary out there especially if you haven't been doing it for a while.
The few seconds it takes to pass someone don't fall within guidelines as it is so low risk. I do however turn my face away if I can't keep apart. Try not to be over anxious out in the open the risks are very low if you try to keep the distancing themselves here you can. It's constantly risk assessing .

I like the first answer on here best.
Just carry on. I admit to being a nugget, as you call them. I haven't used golves, facemasks, sanitiser or spray. There are two things about using a facemask;

1. If it's brand new, straight from the packet, it will give you/others, protection for 20 minutes. After that, it is useless.

2. If you think it will give protection for longer than that, then it's being theraputic. You think it's protecting you, and that's good for your immune system and helps it to work better, much like a placebo.

Another thing about facemasks is that they are worn outside of hospitals and care homes by attention seekers.

A "nuggety" post then, eh?
The face covering /masks are not to protect you, they protect others from droplets you produce. A basic three layer fabric mask will stop your droplets even if it becomes damp so long as it fits closely and you dont fiddle with it. The only protection that works is avoiding other people full stop.
