For public health officials read Gestapo.
Absolutely pointless. In such circumstances all you have to say is that you were out shopping for essentials. Alternatively, that you were stuck on the bog and couldn't answer the door.

So we have recently returned and complied with the isolation to the letter BUT we completed the online locator form 48 before we left to return to UK. Having got off the plane at Heathrow nobody asked if we'd done the form or for any proof we had. We just got our cases and walked out. Needless to say no-one checked up on us at home for the next 14 days.

Indeed, Prudie. And the most ridiculous thing of all is that you could have left Heathrow on the Piccadilly Line, stopped at 30-odd stations through central London and been surrounded by all sorts of people in that hour or so but then you can't go out to your corner shop for a pint of milk for fortnight after you've reached home. Ludicrous.

It's slightly more strict than the original (March) lockdown. Then you could go out "for essential supplies" without any caveat. Now:
(9) During the period of their self-isolation, P may not leave, or be outside of, the place where P is self-isolating except—
(g)in exceptional circumstances such as—
(i)to obtain basic necessities such as food and medical supplies for those in the same household (including any pets or animals in the household) where it is not possible to obtain these provisions in any other manner,

This is what the official gov.uk site says:
You cannot go out to work or school or visit public areas. You should not go shopping. If you require help buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, you should ask friends or relatives or order a delivery.
In England, you must only exercise within your home or garden. You cannot leave your home to walk your dog. You will need to ask friends or relatives to help you with this.

Putting trust in (British) people is farcical. We’re all, deep down, renegades. We don’t like rules. It’s what makes us different to other nations and I, for one, am proud.
BTW, it’s not just us:

I stuck to quarantine regs after returning from France.
It was much harder than lockdown and I was seriously tee'd off by the end of it.
Nobody checked on me although there was one unexplained text message that I didn't bother to listen to which may have been a check.
This need to quarantine has seriously messed up my plans to return to France before Christmas and means the house will not be opened up until Feb/March and therefore will be all mousey, spidery and mouldy.
