Do you use a smartphone.. go on to (view)/use social media? .. take photos/selfies ? .. scan QR codes? .. use your phone for GPS (maps) and satnav navigation? Are you a youngster or an 'oldun (like me) ? Do you understannd modern tech/gadgets?
I don't. I do wonder how everyone has time to actually get on and do things rather than swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe... etc
Its a tool for when you cant get to a laptop, for exampleif you are away from home and you need to see how far it is to the theatre etc. i barely scratch the surface of my data allowance.
i use my smartphone for things like whatsapp, a friend sometimes video calls me, i wouldn;t have any idea how to make one myself.
i don't use it for any social media like twitter or facebook. i guess i am an old un being just 66 -
I use mine primarily as a phone, camera (lots) and for WhatsApp (using home or someone else's wifi). I hardly ever switch on my mobile data when out and about, maybe just when travelling abroad so also use very little of my data allowance. I just find the screen irritatingly small for web browsing so when I do go away I take a tablet to use.
I don't think people will be fully signed up functional members of society without one very soon, as more rules and regulations are introduced for security, transactions, and the cashless society.
I dont have one and don't want one. It is a control tool for manipulating us.
its not to control us i don't believe, its handy in an emergency as i have had occasion to ring 999 for someone who was ill on the bus, they got to us quite quickly considering.
emmie - you don't need a smartphone for that; any old cellphone will do. It does fascinate me how it's taken for granted now that people have smartphones/computers/internet.
Yes I guess they are just small 'pocket' computers. Prudie I agree I would find the screen irritatingly small, also I'm not at all keen on touch keyboards I much prefer my laptop for typing. Being 'no longer young' and having to use reading glasses I really like AB it's easily readable, no idea what this looks like on a smartphone screen.. BIG and BOLD I guess :O)
I was refused service in a coffee shop in the summer because I couldn't use the QR thingy for tracing. I was happy to give my details but it company policy to use electronic means only.
i have had it for 5 years, was considering changing it to one with more storage as mine has almost run out, but all the phone shops are closed. but it will do for now....
Rowan, imagine a requirement that you have tested negative, that the info is on your smartphone, and the supermarket doors will not open for you until a QR code tells shop security you are not a risk.
It will happen.
i was asked to use the QR for tracing in Mcd, some time ago, but i don't think it works, they let me in after all, when i told them i didn't know how to do it.
Yes I have a smartphone but can't say I'm 'attached' to it, certainly never take selfie's , and don't type on it as when I'm on here or FB, I use either my iPad or desktop computer , it's good for FaceTime or calls especially when I'm out, I'd never get rid of my landline though
I don’t have a smartphone, just a basic mobile I use for occasional calls and texts. However, I was discussing with my son yesterday that there may come a time soon when I will be forced to get one. However, even if I do, I suspect it will be seldom used for anything more than basic functions.
