Was watching a programme about Gibraltar and people smuggling cigarettes out of there as they are cheap to buy and it got me wondering how much do cigarettes cost to buy here in a shop?
When I was in the Royal Navy many years ago we used to get Blue Liner Cigs 33p for 300 a month or you could get 600 if you were at sea. Not the best but they were cheap and family used to like the freebies. Glad I gave up around 40 years ago now.
Jackdaw, there was a duke of Plaza Toro or some such place who was forbidden by his doctor to have more than one cigarette a day, so he used to have his hand rolled so each one was 3ft long.
Mine are £11.40 a packet of 20. When I bought them in Spain, including last year, they were about 5 euros (so about £4.50) a packet so no wonder they smuggle them. When I buy them out of EU on long haul holidays they were about £2 a packet.....
my brother cut back on smoking, as they had a hefty mortage and the 300 quid a month he was spending went on repayment for said mortage. now he's started up again, he's hooked alright.
as to drinking, its now more or less limited to the odd drink at the weekends. I don't smoke thank goodness. I couldn't afford 11 quid or more for cigs, what a waste.
