People can be racist too with someone of the same colour as themselves ie German , French etc
So what’s the difference between being a bigot to being a racist?
Racism to a black person is classed as a hate crime and rightly so,
Is it because a bigoted person either doesn’t know or doesn’t admit to being that?

Does it matter? Prejudice is prejudice, no matter the terminology.
i would go out of my way to avoid a bigoted racist . . .
Yes. Racism is one form of bigotry.
I don’t really see a great difference. Both bigotry and racism equate to objection for no rational reason. I think most people who are charged with bigotry or racism don’t object to colour or nationality, but rather to cultures far removed from their own. Bigotry and racism are both terms too often employed to silence justified concerns.

Naomi I’ve heard of people being fined for racism attacks but I can’t recall anyone getting the same for being a bigot ,and yes they appear to be very closely linked , even the same yet it’s always under the umbrella of racism
I would say that bigotry is an umbrella term for any unjustified antipathy - you can be a bigot about anything at all.

Racism is a specific area of bigotry, confined to simply being wilfully ignorant of, and aggressive towards other cultures.

All bigotry is born of ignorance and fear.

Mozz I was more curious than anything
I think it depends what they’re bigoted about, bobbi. If, for example, I said I wouldn’t want a child of mine adopting the gangsta culture, would I be bigoted, racist, or caring?
Naomi, a bigot is adequately explained in the link above.

That’s a very good point Naomi

Naomi //I know what a bigot is thanks, danny.//
I don't doubt that, I was refering the fact that bigotry can be against groups or persons for reasons other than racism.
Yes indeed, danny.

Could it not be born of knowledge about things, which then brings fear? Such as what, you say.

Such as living and working among groups of people and seeing the reality, unlike people posting on websites who only read about these things and become all precious and sanctimoniuos because they've seen it in the media and it must be true. Got to be, hasn't it?

In which case, it's not born out of ignorance. If you have a reason to dislike something, it isn't really bigotry is it?

Mozz has it spot on.

If you live and work among people and 'see the reality', then your negative attitude, if that's what you have, is based on personal experience, which cannot be ignorance.

For example, the city I live in has one of the largest pro rata Muslim communities in the country - so my attitude towards Muslim people is unlikely to be formed from reading about them on the internet.
