Years ago I used to use the recipe on the suet packet to make dumplings. I'd pressure cook the stew then remove the lid and add the dumplings but not cook the dumplings under pressure. I don't think pressure cooking them was successful.
I was looking at dumpling recipes recently as my daughter wanted to try them and Jamie Oliver and other cooks seem to be replacing the suet with butter. I just cheated and bought frozen Aunt Bessie dumplings which my daughter enjoyed in a beef casserole.

I've always cooked them the way carrot describes. I use my pressure cookers a lot but have never attempted pressure cooking dumplings, nor did my mother or grandmother - both pressure cooker fanatics.
I take some of the gravy out of the pressure cooker, put it in a saucepan on the hob and do the dumplings that way. They still get the flavour of the stew but no risk of the stew itself sticking to the bottom of the pressure cooker under the high heat :)
