....ok it's the race obsessed Runnymede trust but how can we possibly be in breach of the UN convention on Racial discrimination? There are no laws that are not for everyone in this country. To listen to TRT we are like another apartheid! We are one of the most Liberal diverse democracies in the world. TRT should be looking in places like Africa if they want to see real racism. I'm just sick to death of these LibFac chancers banging on about it all the time. Ok we have a few racist morons in the football but no one is perfect.

Whilst it is true there are elements in our society that are racists, that applies to every country - Even Black African ones as racism works both ways.

I just wish people like this would stop stoking the chips on peoples shoulder and work towards a fully cohesive society where we dont even think of race.

yes YMB, day to day I barely have a sniff of "racism" - we are diverse at work, the colour of someone's skin doesn't even register with me, my boss is Indian, I work with people from all over the world, yet, I apparently live in a racist nation! Ridiculous.

Minorities and their allies are always accused of "causing division" whenever they oppose racism... it is just another way of telling people to shut up.

Yes, that's the absolute minimum... but in everyday lives, the problems are more attitudes, treatment, thinking... and those things take generations of time to change. That doesn't alter just because a law does. It isn't always blatant.

And to suggest it's "causing division" shows the point really. Wouldn't everyone want genuine equality? (not just on paper). What kind of people are "divided" by requests for equal treatment?

Those who aren't receiving it get a bit miffed - like the people being rejected for jobs because they don't meet the criteria for diversity - but then ethnic minorities, having been on the receiving end of inequality, really ought to understand that and rather than champion equality solely for themselves, champion it for all.

All political disagreements are "causes of division". Voting to leave was a cause of division; Disagreeing with a political party is a "cause of division". I think you need to have a little think about why you think it's fine for some people to "cause division" and not others... If you're honest with yourself I think you'll find it's down to biases about the people involved.

That's the first sensible thing I've seen you say on the subject. I can only hope you've realised what you've said and are acknowledging that it works both ways.

A bit miffed about equal treatment? I'm sure we are all aware, that we haven't actually balanced everything out yet. The playing field has been tipped for so many centuries in one direction- the only way to get a level playing field, is to tip it the other way.
Changing laws, awareness and so on, hasn't worked. There has been loads of time, to adjust things more fairly, and yet, we still haven't.
You must have noticed too, that we still have accusations of tick-boxing. As if, nobody could genuinely be more competent than a middle-aged, able-bodied white male. And that isn't because of "divisiveness", it's because people seem to think that we can go from unfairness to fair, without any real adjustment.

You're right in a way, naomi. White people do get annoyed being treated "equally" and looked over, due to skin colour. You'd think they would understand then.
