Great jumps. But sharing gold or risking getting silver rather than gold seemed an easy choice to me .

But given the choice of possibly losing a gold it’s hardly surprising they chose not risk it.

they competed, they came out equal, they shared the gold. They shouldn't even have been asked to do a jump-off, they haven't trained to do an infinite number of jumps. It's not like football where they have strategies to force a winner when there isn't one.

The question is whether or not they should have had a gold to lose at that point. They both had at least a silver, but arguably no more than that.

There isn’t a fixed number of jumps as such.
You get three attempts, usually ar the sane height but not necessarily.
They each failed at the same height and were therefore eliminated and they were in all respects level

Er, no! They were in joint first place. Silver would be for joint second place, bronze for joint third and so on.
Boxers share bronze medals rather than fight it out. Rightly or wrongly
