If so the reaction between cue ball and object ball would be different to what is normal.

It is obvious really.
If you pot a colour it stays in inside the table. If you pot white it comes out again. It table manages to sort by size. So the weight will also be slightly different.

that's on a slot pool table gromit, the cue ball is slightly smaller that's all the composition is the same. On a proper pool/snooker/billiard table the balls are all the same.

Gromitm as TTT said, that is on a coin operated pool table. Regular pool and snooker are played with balls of the same weight and dimensions.

The tables are coin slot operated. They need a system to retain the colours and return the white/cue ball.

Most pool is played in pubs and bars in this country. Of course snooker and billiards clubs have open pockets for returning the white to the table.
So I suppose it depends on where the OP is playing.
