I have always loved my neighbour's suite as in comfortability. It is brown leather - she is just after leaving my house after telling me she is getting a new one as she needs a recliner for her aches and pains.

I have to make my mind by tomorrow if I want it.

First of all I sort of never like dark colours in my house and judging by other suites of yesteryear re leather - I found them cold in the winter and sticky in the summer. But my house is always very warm.

Otherwise I don't want to pass the opportunity - it is only about 5 years old too.

It is what I wanted - you know the puffy arms etc. What would you do?

^^^ I going over tonight to look at it - she has said a little leather has worn on one of the settees. Is that easy fixed?

If you think it will be too dark do as I do and put a throw on it - it brightens the room and is good if you have pets.

JJ I never find that a problem with leather suites unless you plan to sit on them in the nude!
The problem with leather is, some suites look fine for years and years whereas others crease and pucker like crazy.
Perhaps someone might know why this is.
It might be down to the type of leather.
If you are going to see it again tonight, have a good look at it as you don't want to have to go to the trouble of having it delivered and then finding you're not happy with it.

if they are gifting it to you take it but tell them if you do not get on with it you will gift it onwards, what is there to lose ?

My leather suite is over 10 years old and still looks like new - no sagging, creasing or puckering (it was hugely expensive).
It is not cold in the winter or sticky in the summer although I have sat on other leather suites that are.
Bright cushions might cheer up the brown-ness.
A repair is going to be cheaper than a new suite.

You have been after a new suite for months and had no success - this might be the answer to your prayers and problems

I would temporarily move my sofa, and try theirs.

bear in mind though if you do have to get rid of it, you'll probably hav to pay someone to dump it

ps are you sure your suites of yesteryear were leather? I only ask because depending on "yesteryear" date, fake leather/pvc was popular (40 years or so ago)

Charities will collect unwanted furniture as long as it is fire retardant. My local night shelter isn’t fussy about a bit of wear and tear.

Yes, bednobs. Oxblood leather chesterfields and club chairs were popular in real leather back then; black swivel chairs were usually leatherette

it is coming over tomorrow night - I have moved dining room area as have moved large table - put two carvers (heavy) into shed and pushed the table against window. Unbelievable the room I have left will actually hold my old suite - you know 2 wee seats and the settee.

Do need to pull out the old furniture and get floor and skirting boards washed. I'll do that tonight as I am off out now.
