Did You Know?....First Man On The Moon....

of course we all know the first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong but did you know why? It wasn't pre ordained it was because the design of the lunar module put him nearest the door, it could just as easily have been Buzz Aldrin.

Buzz Aldrin had the right idea on how to deal with moon landing conspiracy theorists :

There was no "commander's seat" in the lunar modules: both astronauts stood during the descent and landing, and neither was 'nearer' to the egress hatch which was positioned between them. The hatch handle was on the left hand side, closer to the commander, and the hatch opened to the right, towards the LM pilot:

I read somewhere that Aldrin was extremely miffed that he wouldn't be the first, TTT. I also read that in one of the rehearsals, he actually did go first but damaged his spacesuit or a piece of equipment as he squeezed past Armstrong.
Also read that when the Lunar Module took off, the down-blast toppled the US flag over and that on subsequent moon landings, the flag was planted a good distance away from the craft so as not to suffer the same fate.

ken, at the time it was protocol that the junior man would go out first but it meant that he would have to climb over Armstrong and NASA did consider the significance of the the first man and given the door situation went against what would have been the standard approach. Yes no doubt Buzz was miffed.
here is a fun thing that circled the net back in the 90s
