I think that the teacher's reaction was inexcusable and needs questioning. The child questioning the identification as a cat is also a pupil and deserving of understanding, not threats. It will have upset her greatly.
Personally, I think the child did well.

I don't. I think he (she or it) needs sectioning under the Mental Health Act and never allowed near children again. Mind you, when you read this:

I imagine there's not much hope. To talk of "re-educating" children who make comments that are not "on-message" sounds like some of North Korea's Thought Police have made their way across the Channel.
