Sore Ears From New Spectacles

I had some new glasses about 3 weeks ago, and despite going back just about every other day to the optician (fortunately just around the corner) they still make my ears sore at the back, first one side then the other. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to put some sort of padding on them please? At the moment I’m using cotton wool pads but they’re not ideal. I’ve looked on line to see if there’s anything that I could buy but can’t see anything.

Have you considered binding some knitting wool round the arm where it loops around your ear?

The optician hasn’t suggested anything so far elliemay. I will try that retrocop, thank you.

There is a large selection on different types of ear pads and cushions on Amazon although I don't know how effective they are

Go to another optician - most will complete minor adjustments for no charge, even if you are not a client of theirs.

When you find one who corrects what is a minor flaw in fitting advise them that you will be coming to them for your next eyetest, your current optician is clearly not competent.

Not Vision Express is it - I found them to be useless as to a repair to an arm. Specsavers no problem, so switched - as AH suggested.

helly, andy is spot on, imo. It is a basic requirement that your glasses should be fit for purpose. That is poor service from your optician.

Thank you for your replies. I’ve sent for a set of things from Amazon. Can’t remember what they’re called. It’s a small local optician near me and I am beginning to get fed up with this problem although they are very kind and attentive when I go back. Will see how I get on with the things from Amazon.

Proper fitting is essential, you should be able to wear specs and forget about them.

If your optician can't provide such a basic service, you should take your custom elsewhere to one who can.

Andy - I would, but I’ve not been too well so can’t get to the other opticians as they are too far for me to walk to at the moment. Thanks for your answers anyway.

hellywelly - Hopefully you will be better soon, I hope so, but you should never put up with substandard service.

I hope you get the issue sorted soon - it really is a few seconds' job for someone who knows what they are doing.

There are two possibilities, the likely one is the end of the hook is a little too bent and pokes into the back of your ear as mine did, it takes two seconds to bend it a tiny way back. Otherwise as I had with a lovely pair of glasses the frames weren't wide enough and the side pieces went outwards from the frames to fit at their maximum extent but pressed on the side of my head and had to go.

Thank you for your reply David N. I’ve now got some things which fit over the bend in the frames and (so far), they are doing the trick. Fingers very tightly crossed!!!
