Another thread prompted me to look for information about the 1974 sugar rationing and I found this. I certainly knew a lot of ladies that looked like them, at first glance I thought one was my auntie.

Oh dear...I sometimes feel guilty when I see things like this and make inevitable comparisons.
My ex went to the States around 1978 because of the situation here...strikes, shortages etc.
Those women look so...sad?

They weren't all like that in the seventies! And what's this got to do with sugar? The ones in the pic might have been born in the 20's. There were fewer obese people in those days.
