Who Likes A ‘Picky Tea’ Or Knows What It Is Lol?
Working at home whilst listening to Capital Radio, and the DJ was saying about how on a day off she loves a picky tea, and the shows Producer said what on earth is that?? Started a whole conversation about what it is, and peoples versions of it!
Both my Nan and my mum would do this, and then me lol. When I was little it was basically when my mum didn't want to cook a proper dinner, and so she would put out various bit n pieces for us to help ourselves - bit like an indoor picnic really. So it usually had some sandwiches, crisps, bits of cheese, cake if there was any lying about, and anything else that was in the fridge. When I became a mum I would do the same as my kids saw it as a treat, but we ended up calling it bits n pieces. So they would say to me can we have bits n pieces for tea? lol. I'd then do my version, which usually had quiche, little sausages etc..... but it was always called bits n pieces.
Everyone does this right? lol.

Usually when I have bits and pieces of previous dinners or ingredients in the fridge. So it could be a bit of stew or risotto but not enough to be a meal for both of us, so it gets put in the middle of the table with a bit of salad, maybe cheese, crusty bread, pickles - pretty much anything thats hanging around and needs used up. We love it!
I'd never heard of a Picky Tea until just last week when a new colleague told me about hers. She had cheese, bread, sausage rolls, pate, olives and salad bits and had grown up on weekend picky teas.
We would have that and call it lunch, but for an evening meal I would probably add new potatoes and call it a warm salad.
I shall call it a picky tea from now on!
