I am doing 120 hours of unpaid work and have been made to work in heavy rain with no PPE or jacket on several occasions. My question is what are my rights on this as I am 58 years of age, type 2 diabetic and have heart problems.

Could you discuss this with your probation officer?

That's assuming that you have one.

the unpaid work is not meant to be fun. and yes I agree first stop is your probation officer.

I'm sure your 'employer' is still required to comply with Health and Safety requirements so PPE is relevant, but I don't think the rain is a danger to your health

Take it up with whoever, and in the meantime I'd buy a cheap rain poncho and hope for better weather. Assuming you've done a few days already, it really will be over soon.

do you have to wear a uniform then?

if not, just wear your own jacket

If they're not giving you weather protection phone in sick and do the work on better days. It's not a chain gang.

Why should they supply a jacket? That's your responsibility.

Probaby just get on with it and stop whinging.

perhaps New Judge can advise?

Do you mean you were told to take your jacket off when you were working in heavy rain, or you weren't supplied with one?

What sort of work is it?  Does it need PPE?
