Ive had some tooth issues for a few years but as i was ill with worse stuff ive not dealt with them.

today i went to the emergency dentist to get antibiotics, but he wanted to just pull 2 teeth out, that was is, wouldnt do anything else, just the antibiotics
but the guy i saw in the same place a few months ago, didnt want to remove any, he wanted to maintaim as much real tooth as possible to enable me to have other stuff done in the future.

so anyway, i said no & said id think about it - as one of them is a front tooth!

So from then ive had 4 amoxicillin tablets, but now the pain has  become unbearable, throbbing, its so bad its making me want to cry - but i have a high pain threshold so it must be bad

but the last few days ive had a weird 'unwell' feeling, like just before you get a cold or flu, that 'off' feeling.
i feel a bit nauseous, but not like im about to actually vomit.

ive had prescription cocodamol, 500mg naproxen, 75mg amitryptaline - & i have a morphine patch on - none of it is doing anything! its really bad

So what do i do? if i go to the hospital or walk in, arent they just going to give me antibiotics & send me home?

im aware this sort of thing can spread & cause sepsis, etc

but now i have antibiotics wont that stop it getting worse?

its entirely possible the pain is due to all the swilling with salt water, etc & eating on it ?
I cant tell if i have a fever, i dont think so, & my heart isnt racing i dont think

its 4am so im bound to feel tired & crap.

i dont know what to do?

any thoughts?

thanks :)

Sounds like it could be an abscess, I've had a couple and they're very painful - now I believe dentists try to keep the teeth and do root canal - but your pain sounds too severe even for that - the anti biotics should have helped.  Sorry I can't help, I'd contact your dentist asap ....good luck.

I had excruciating toothache that antibiotics didn't help.  Turned out to be trigeminal neuralgia - I hope you haven't got that. Ended up taking carbamazepine, nothing else would touch it

Oh no, that sounds just horrendous. I agree it could well be an abscess - the pain can be unbearable. I agree to call  111 x

Can't add anything useful to the replies above; but wishing you good luck sorting it out today. Tooth pain can be awful, you clearly need yours sorting as an urgent/emergency situation today.

Just a though, you probably need a dental hospital rather than a local general one.

no - it is an abs, and you need to go to a dentist ( as an emerg, and probably pay)

dentists are for abs - not hospitals

Recently I suffered excruciating pain in one upper tooth - firstly given antibiotics which cured it for about four weeks then pain returned much worse - dentist asked if I wanted more antibiotics or tooth extraction and I opted for the latter ... result was an abscess which was also affecting lower teeth and nasal area.  Dentist said I had made the correct decision as my whole face would have swollen up to my eye had tooth been left in situ.
