If for example , you tap your finger very very lightly on the  surface of an object, does it make a sound , even though you can't hear it ?

Try it on your ear - I think yes is correct.

If you define sound as the existence of sound waves, then yes.

If you define sound as how the brain interprets those waves,  then no.

Yes, it does. If someone happens to be near you, they will most likely hear it.

Surely sound only exist if there is a  device to capture and process the waves - i.e. ears

yes, sound is vibration through a medium and that happens regardless of any sort of detection.

That's an interesting definition of sound. So why can't anyone else hear my tinnitus which is quite loud to me?

because that is caused by an electrical fault in your hearing system. Sound enters the ear and gets converted to electrical impulses that get converted by the brain into what you know as sound.

11:23 that's been a philisophical disucssion. The Scientific one is very simple. Sound is vibration of the medium any detector set up to detect it will if it is in the vicinity and is sensitive enough.

So if I have a recorder in the area when the tree falls the sound will be recorded.

Occasionally when classical piano music is being played it's possible to hear the sound of the fingers striking the keys - as well as the music.
