We'll have to wait and see if it actually happens and if so what the impact is. It's proposed to be applied to imports into US from all countries, with an even higher rate for some like China.... so unless the US can manufacture and sell to itself it may be that Americans will still buy roughly the same level of imports in order to meet their needs. Protectionist measures often fail and/or lead to retaliation so often are removed/scaled back.

I am not sure how she is expecting much growth after the budget she delivered, but I seriously doubt she has "pleaded" with Trump. I do hate sensationalised headlines.

Newmod...I read as high as 60% for Chinese goods.

curlyfries...Well...it's a typical DM headline. Images of her grovelling. Which may happen 🤔

Trump keeps insisting the tariffs are a tax paid by those in the exporting country and not those importing the goods who then have the option to pass all or part of the tariffs, to consumers.

After the way they've treated Trump these people are kidding themselves if they think they can maintain a special relationship with the US.   He doesn't need them.  They're small fry.

Britain should do the same.

Yes. Retaliation usually puts a stop to this. Anyway when prices rise in US because of import duties then interest rates go up may rethink.

Retaliation only works if you can have an impact.  I doubt the UK would so would be pointless.

Trump does have a fondness for the UK (He is directly half British afterall not like Bidens generations back Irish) so we will have to hope he doesnt hit us too hard.  But Labour and their big gobs are not going to help. someone needs to tell Lady Nugee and the Coucillor Khan to shut it.
