I didn't know until reading it this morning and in case you don't,  he took the opening notes from the whistling of his pet starling.  🙂

Mendelssohn was on a tour of the Scottish islands and was so fascinated by the sound of the water crashing into Fingal's Cave he wrote it down and sent it in a letter to his family - it became the opening notes of Hebrides Overture.

It's a nice tune, ideal for prancing ladies and gents
