I have one letter left to complete and cannot get anything in either direction. The clues are:

Set of organ pipes, first switched off (5). It has three consonants of which the last two are G and R. Answer is a composer.

Fate's no choice of letters (4). This a non-themed clue. It has three consonants, which are N,?,N. So that's a strange word, only nemn and nown fit as far as I can see and I cannot parse either, nor can I find a composer who fits either.

Greig?

GRIEG, sorry.

Elgar?

Fate...Norm, N or M?

That's only if the second N is incorrect!

Elgar is better of they have to be in that order

N or N

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm very confident about the two Ns (from Arnold and Tournemire). How do you define NORN?

Question Author

OK, you live and learn, thanks for that! So it's no longer necessary for the solution but I'm going to fing that RGR organ pipe fella for peace of mind!

Question Author

It'll do. There is a famous pipe organ manufacturer called Rodgers, which parses if you ignore the d, and it doesn't matter anyway with the R already completed from norn, which I had never heard of before. Thanks all and merry Christmas!

HBAnorak, although my suggestions were wildly wrong, it's been an interesting thread.
