Would it be better to send robots off to Mars and other destinations, rather than sending humans?

Robots, like probes etc. are all very well for first contacts, but one can't beat the versatility of a human being.

Besides actually getting there is part of the aim. Like the difference between going on holiday and experiencing somewhere, compared to looking it up on the Internet.

OG; I sort of agree, but it will probably be centuries before tech can make space holidays viable. In the meantime we should perhaps concentrate on using the best means at our disposal to explore space, not just enjoy it. The idea of terraforming Mars to enable human settlement this century is to my mind completely unreal.

Terraforming takes a long time. We aren't doing a great job on Earth with that at present. A base and individuals conducting science and engineering should prove possible though as long as the cost gets justified.

OG; I think a base and a few humans could probably be achieved this century. A bigger settlement would be tricky; imagine what the Wild West was like, and imagine that the nearest sheriff or assistance was months away. I suspect it might turn out like Lord of the Flies or Midsomer Murders.

Send Starmer, he's half robot anyway
