Thank you for reponding to my question re my auto trans. problem. Regret I was unable to reply earlier despite two emails to site support which remain unanswered. I have now registered again with different details. Fluid was changed just before my first post on 20 Feb by Auto Trans Services so hopefully should be correct. You obviously have considerable knowledge of auto boxes so I would appreciate any further ideas that I can try. It seems to me that logically there is little wrong because the car behaves perfectly after the first selection of the second gear each day.

Original question:

First thing in the morning with 'D' engaged the car moves off perfectly in its first low gear but revs up as if there is no drive connection when moving up to the second gear. Momentarily releasing the accelerator resolves the problem and the car then behaves perfectly for the rest of the day i.e. this problem only occurs on the first start up of the day. Not sure if it has started playing up with the arrival of cold weather. Fluid has been changed. Any ideas please.

Hi,

I don,t want to step on Stanleyman's toes because he gives good advice all the time and helps everyone!.

I got a Renault 5 months ago and soon afterwards I joined Renaultforums.co.uk, this is a free site, every question I asked about my car was answered within a day or two, all, all, the people on the site are friendly, there are a few people on there who are fully qualified Renault mechanics and give very detailed answers.

This site has saved me hundreds of pounds since I joined!....give it a try. hope to see you on there!

Ouch! Well worth trying the Renault site because although all boxes work much the same they all have their little quirks and it maybe a common problem. If it gets worse then you may have to get it fixed. It could be a simple as oil draining out of the ram overnight, low pressure or might be a faulty seal or sticking piston or valve or electrical. I used to have a similar problem with an overdrive many years ago.
sorry
Salright, don't do it again.

Somewhere or other I have seen a product which is an additive for automatic gearboxes oil which is supposed to free up sticking seals and generally make it work more like when it was new. Something like this which is a Australian product or this from Wynns.

Ah! At last I can reply to posts. It seems that the new Beta copy of Internet Explorer 7 inhibited my ability to post replies. I've uninstalled it, and all is well again.

Have now joined Renaultforums Toureman. Many thanks for introduction.

I also seem to recall a magic oil for curing auto box probs. Qapmac. A quick search shows that the Wynn's one is available in the UK and perhaps others if I look a bit harder. Be interesting to hear from someone who's had some success with the stuff. If I don't resolve the problem over the next couple of weeks, I'll give it a try and report results
