Shammydodger - I live up the road from the Cholmondeley Arms and its a bit posh - when you walk in, you'll get some odd looks if your not one of the 'uper classed' locals.
however saying that its in a lovely location and you can always fuel up outside, if the sun is out.
Failing that, theres a few nice pubs in Bickerton or Tarporley or try The Thatch inn, in Faddiley.
Hope this helps some what?
Thanks Foxydiva.
Alas, I've only just read your messages, having just got back from Ludlow. In the event, we stopped at a pub called The Willeymoor Locks. The weather was pleasant enough for us to eat al fresco at the lockside. Good ole cod and chips washed down with lashings of Theakston's. And what should come gliding through the lock but a narrowboat built in the very yard in Dewsbury that also houses my own favourite local boozer!
Ludlow was lovely, and it just happened to be the week of the Ludlow fair. Even better, the racing was profitable enough to pay for the weekend and then some.
We'll be doing the same next year, so will certainly keep the Cholmondley Arms in mind. Thanks again, Foxy. You, too, Buenchico.
