School Records gone missing!!!
2 Answers
Hi my GF has been trying to get hold of her school records from her old school but they say they can't find them....but no one else's have gone missing according the schools Head. She needs them as she was VERY badly bullied at her school (to the point where she had to leave) and wants to see what the school had recorded about the problems that she had. She's getting copies of documents from the Education Authority who had to get involved but they don't have her school files. They say the school should have them and can't see how they might have vanished. Any idea's on what to do or do you think they've "lost" them on purpose as they could be quite damaging for the school in question.

This was before the Data Protection Act 1998 which requires that data (in both electronic and paper forms) must not be kept longer than necessary. Under this legislation, schools will normally keep things like records of examination results indefinitely (because past pupils might lose certificates and need to be reminded of their examination performance). All other information, however, will normally be destroyed shortly after a pupil leaves the school. (I know that, in order to comply with the legislation, some schools shred most records the day after the official school-leaving date).
