Recommendations required for short scottish break

I'm looking for a place to visit for an overnight stop (treat for the wife) somewhere on the scottish borders as we don't want to travel far (currently in Nth Yorks) - Have visited Kelso recently so looking for somewhere similar in Hawick, Jedburgh, Falkirk etc. if anyone can recommend a town, hotel, or even attractions in the town!

a bit further? that's nearly the same again! We're only staying overnight and i'm not doing an 8 hour round trip for that. Besides which Loch Lomond needs at least a week to explore. No i'm looking for recommendations for hotels in the places mentioned please. cheers, darth
