Representation of women in old and new james bond films

How are women represented in the early james bond films compared to the recent james bond films?

In The World Is Not Enough the lead baddie was a woman,Elektra King.
Graham Rye and Maryam D'Abo have both written books about the Bond women,but I don't know if they deal with the subject in the way you want.
Tracey in OHMSS was resourceful and intelligent,a match for Bond in many ways.Diana Rigg is the best actress to have taken the lead in a Bond film.
They often talked about making the leading lady more of an equal to Bond but it seldom happened.I wonder if some of this is down to perception and how much to the writing and performance.I think it worked in Licence To Kill,Tomorrow Never Dies,and The World Is Not Enough,and OHMMSS.But I'm not convinced about Die Another Day where it should have worked.

Sorry Ward minter I have to disagree with you.Renard was junior to Elektra in the plot.The plot was hers and he did the work.The plan being that he would explode the sub and Elektra would reap the rewards.It would be pretty silly to hatch a plan that involved blowing yourself up,wouldn't it? www.007.info has a nice precis of the plot.

Elektra was thought to be a victim of Stockholm syndrome,but actually Renard fell for her.She planned,financed and put into play the operation.And the problems with her father go further back than the kidnapping if you listen to the dialogue.The clue is in the name.
We will just have to agree to disagree on this point.
