Given about 70k where would you buy a little place that you could rent out or use for weekends etc. Somewhere like Brighton would be my choice but it's way too expensive. I live near the northern side of the M25 and like a bit of life and the seaside, but could be tempted by a more rural location for walking etc. Any suggestions?

Ireland? Flights are so inexpensive or you can take your car over on a ferry for v cheap as well. House prices are reasonable and the people are friendly. Its a complete change from staying in England and there's so much to see and do, North or South
going on 5029's thread i would also recommend central France as an option - cottages are cheap (certainly you'll get change out of 70k), price of living is cheap, summers are warmer. Only downside is you'll need to learn French
House prices in Ireland have actually shot through the roof in the last few years, even land is going for ridiculous prices and as for trying to get one built, if you have a few relatives in the trade you might get lucky.
Why not a little bungalow beside the river or Broads in Norfolk. There are some lovely villages and river settings.

Thank you one and all, I'm going to do some research on your suggestions and hoping for some sunny weekends to do it.
