model booker/scout? what is it...

I enquired about how to get involved in the modelling industry but from the booker/scout side of things and have been asked to go for an interview to be considered for a freelance talent scout. However, i have absolutely no idea about the industry or what kind of things would be good in an interview - what exactly does a freelance scout do? doeas anybody have any experience in working in this business i really have absolutely no idea about the way it works or where to start!! What kind of a background am i supposed to have? I have just finished my second year of a degree in dance and wouldnt have thought this was a particularly relevant qualification, but they know this and have still asked me to come for an interview?! any advice would be appreciated!

I think that I would be careful ... after all as you said you don't seem to have any relevant qualifications and yet they have asked you to go for an interview. I would have thought that a freelance scout would have needed quite a bit of experience in the business ... so it sounds a bit strange.

Just a few (hopefully, helpful) pointers off the top of my head - what kind of agency is the interview with, e.g. one of the big London ones or a smaller, regional agency. The big London agencies will presumably be wanting you to 'scout' for the next Kate Moss and models suitable for catwalk and editorial work (glossy mags etc). Local or smaller agencies may have completely different criteria and perhaps just want pretty faces to do local beauty or catalogue work. Do your homework and see what models/looks are in at the moment and why. I don't think any degree is appropriate for that kind of work, you can't really be taught how to spot that kind of potential in people, so you have as good a chance as anyone. Presumably, studying dance must make you quite 'body conscious' so you could 'sell' your degree as being appropriate from that perspective.
