how safe is my airline?
I want to fly from Sydney to Bali in April. How can I find out which airlines are least likely to crash, how competent their pilots are, what their safety record is like? A pilot recently told me standards are slipping and some pilots out there are unsafe - is this true and how can you increase your chances of survival?

I know I might not be very helpful in saying this but plane crashes happen very rarely. I'm sure pilots need to be of a certain standard to be qualified and when you think of how many flights take off everyday and how few have problems, there's really no need to worry.
Some airlines have better records than other, but thats the same with anything. I really wouldnt worry about it. Theres nothing to be worried about. All Planes and Pilots are safe! All planes have safety checks reguarly. There are thousants of Planes in the air all the time and how often do u hear of a complication. Dont Worry, and have a good flight.
I found lots of info with a quick google search (airlines, safety etc.). What has happened in the past does not necessarily have a bearing on the future.
I very much doubt that standards are slipping but most accidents (few and far between) are caused by human error. You cannot legislate for that.
It is by far the safest form of travel.
