I have a hamster which my boyfriend got me last year. We picked him because he looked a bit unusual, with fluffy grey fur and big ears. However, his fur has grown and grown and it is now incredibly long and wispy, as if he has a very thick fur coat on! Does anybody know why this is, as we have not seen a hamster like this before! Its normal, you do get long and short hair hamsters but the short hair ones tend to be the most common. This ones is obviously a long haired one. My sister had one.
I agree, gilf is right. Just as there are different breeds of cats, with some having long hair and some having short hair, there are likewise different breeds of hamsters. I have seen your type of hamster before, in the pet shops as well as in pictures on the Internet. Your hammie is perfectly normal! And less common, so you should be quite proud of him!
If you have a long haired pet then please check his (her ) fur for knots and sticky bits as these can lead to skin soreness and infection. It would probably be a good idea to get your pet used to being combed very gently
