Food to have for lunch at work whilst on a strict diet?
12 Answers
Hey I wonder if anyone could help me. Basically, I am 6 stone over weight so need to take drastic action with my eating habits. I am going to cut out all my snacks, limit myself to one treat per week providing I eat healthily all week. I was wondering does anyone have any ideas what I can take for my lunch at work? bearing in mind i only get a 20minute lunch. I take sandwiches at the moment but was looking for something healthier as I need to cut down on my bread intake!I was thinking of making a salad but they usually taste funny if not eaten straight away after prepared? Pot noodles etc just are full of crap not much goodness! Any ideas?thanks in advance :)

Salads made up on a morning and eaten 4 hours later do as you say taste funny but you could take the salad ingredients in a bag; tomato, piece of cucumber, small tupperware of sweetcorn or whatever then make it up at lunchtime. I used to do this and share it with a friend and she'd do the next day. You must add a protein product; fish, meat, cheese, egg or even a yoghourt so you don't feel hungry during the afternoon.
Good luck, keep your diet posted.

Lafrancais - did you do this lunchtime salad to help weight loss or just to be healthy? I did think about maybe doing that and adding some tuna to fill me up slightly!
Thats another thing i think I may have a dairy intolerance i get awful stomach aches and a bubbling stomach and really bad acid indigestion/heartburn whenever i eat dairy :s

Hi again, I did it to lose weight at the time but still eat mixed salads at lunchtime but I'm at home now so no problem preparing them. Eating healthily and cutting down on fats and sugar are the best way to lose weight, but let yourself have a treat say once a week. When I was losing weight mine was lunch of a banana split!! but that was a long time ago!!
Have you thought of different toppings on crispsbreads? Alternating things like this with the salads will stop it getting boring too. I used to take prepared salads to work and never found the taste to be a problem, maybe it depends on what you use and where you store it til lunch.
My daughter takes little tubs of different things to school for her lunch, even though shes not dieting. Things like carrot and cucumber sticks in one, chopped ham and tomato in another, grapes and apple in another. These also provide a great healthy snack to keep you going through the day if you get peckish!
Dont forget to excercise, little and often will be a help, and drink lots of water!
Good luck :)

Try whole wheat tortilla wraps, they are very light but very filling but if you want to cut bread out completely, fill yourself up on protein like beef (stays the longest), chicken (caesar salad) and fish (salmon is very filling) or tofu (never ate it myself though) while eggs would be good to try out too.

Watercress, cherry toms, cucumber, carrots, half-dozen corriander leaves, 100g fresh peeled prawns and one loaded teaspoon seafood sauce. Only significant calories come from the prawns so you can treat yourself with the sauce. This does not taste funny by lunch if able to keep cool (use an ice pack if no fridge - you do not want seafood poisoning) as the watercress stays fresh unlike lettuce (evil food). No bread though to avoid IBS, but have a lowfat yougert for dessert. Substitute lean ham or tuna or other lean protein to make a change. Good Luck
Try mixing some cooked pasta that has gone cold with salad onions (spring) cuecumber toms sweetcorn and anything else veg that you like add some tuna or other oily fish and a low fat dressing. You can do the same with rice, if you use wholemeal pasta or brown rice (or half and half) it will be even more filling.
