How can this be allowed?

I was just googling a hippo picture and came accross this horrible website www.ZWsafaris.com, it has really upset me, I couldnt believe what I was seeing, basically there is an American man in Zimbabwe who has set up a hunting holiday camp, there are pictures of them hunting (with bows) : Hippos, Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Rhinos etc.... These amazing beautiful animals suffer a horrific death and by the looks of it, just for someones "holiday"!!! and so they can have a photo taken with their "prize"!! How can people do this? Anyway, Ive mailed the website and told them what a bunch of sh*ts they all are! Sometimes I just feel ashamed to be human!

I myself find your observation that those beautiful animals suffer an horrible death somewhat askew. Does that mean that it is okay to do this to warthogs and wildebeests? Ofcourse not, and I know you wrote this with your emotions agitated with what you seen that that site.
Yes, humans are horrible animals and will be the downfall of most wildlife including themselves within a very short ecological time. The insects will rule once again in the end.

I would say this is the most disgusting thing I've seen for a while. Killing animals for fun is not acceptable and betrays the hunter's need to kill for their own gratification. Anybody who hunts for fun is repulsive and abhorrent. Normally I accept anybody's point of view on AB but this.....I'm sorry, hunting for fun makes you a weirdo.
I heard about this years ago. There was a similar hunting range ion America where they would import any animal of your choice ( I have no idea how) and you could shoot it in a pretty much enclosed space.
I truly believe that some people have the hunter gatherer instinct in them. My stepdad and mum are farmers and they hunt. Not the hooray henry red coat type. Its only ever for food that they will eat.
I suppose the hunting range in you thread is completely legal. Is it? Maybe its a way of making money in a national park culling program? Albeit a bit sick.

Yes apparantly (and VERY unfortunately) in this particular area of Zimbabwe they fought to make it / keep it legal and it was granted.
When I saw it my jaw literally dropped, I actually didnt believe it was real for some wierd reason, thought maybe they had darted them with a temporary sleeping drug just to have their photo taken with them (yes a bit dim of me but I was hoping).....shouldnt have been that shocked I suppose with the state the world is in.
And the smarmy grins on their faces whilst standing over their "trophy"!!!! SICK SAD people!!
They should have the same done to them, see how they like it!
An eye for an eye, thats what I say!

Can I just clarify that I do not have a problem with people who hunt for food; I would be a massive hypocrite if I did. I am lucky enough to live in a society where I can walk into a supermarket and buy a clean piece of meat with all the blood washed off, and it's re-labelled as "beef" not "dead cow". I can't possibly have a problem with people who kill to eat. This is natural.
But people who kill to show how big and hard they are? Like I said earlier, weird.

Cheries - it is exactly your statement which exposes the hypocrisy of this whole argument - you are happy to eat a bit of meat as long as you don't associate the misery and pain that has been inflicted on an animal to produce it? No wonder children of this generation don't know where most of their food comes from, yet as soon as we see an example of an animal being killed (usually abroad - it's them foreigners you know) we get on our superior high horses - just look a bit more closely at your supermarket shelves next time and take responsibility for your purchasing power!
Sherlockian, I did state that I had no problem with people hunting for food. I also stated that I am fortunate to live in a culture which presents me with a ready made meat product which removes all of the disgusting process of obtaining meat.
So where have I become a hypocrite in this argument, exactly? I have stated that I find it obscene that people would hunt for fun; I am not saying that hunting for food is wrong. But the need to kill for the sake of "sport" or personal gratification is WEIRD. WEIRD. WEIRD.
I grew up on a farm where both dairy and beef cattle were raised organically, and I now shop organically whenever I can. I was vegetarian for 20 years. The argument here is not about meat eating, though, it is about a group of frustrated and probably impotent men (and sometimes women) who get their kicks from murdering animals for no other reason than to look good. If they were out hunting for their supper then that would be somewhat different; we have always been hunter gatherers. But Hunting for fun is WEIRD. And I shall keep on saying it.

Allowing animals to be shot by those with far too much money for their own good, actually has a basis in sustainable conservation. It keeps far more animals alive, than leaving them to the poachers and the starving locals who kill them to protect their crops and animals.
Bizarre as this seems, it keeps the indiginous population alive.
So shall we let the people die then?
