I've just received an email from a friend. It reads:- If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' (In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3, etc. Be sure it's in your kid's cell phones also. A great idea that will make a difference! This is just for info.

Yup it is a great idea we did it about a year ago. While we are on the info kick - programme your home destination in your Sat Nav to be your local Police Station. Let's face it -once you get to your town you should know the way to your house.

Argghh! Why have the paragraphs disappeared?!
See I would always check either the last person to call or text or the parents of the person who's phone it was, tip: look under "mum" or "dad."
I did this after finding a phone in a taxi once and got the phone back to the guy no bother.
good point tigger thanks mate ill put that in my phone , thanks x
What a fantastic idea -gonna do it right now .TY
When my husband lost his mobile a couple of years ago barnaclebill (he left it on top of the car when he was strapping our daughter into her carseat and drove off with it still on the roof!!) the woman who found it rang "Mum" in the contacts list and hubbys Mum said she had no children!!! lol The woman was stumped but luckily knew our neighbour who knew we had lost it and just happened to mention about this mobile she had found outside her house so he did get it back.
Just you saying about calling mum barnaclebill reminded me of his mum refusing to admit to him being her son lol She must have thought someone was after him!
Sorry tigger didn't mean to ignore the point of your thread. It is a very good idea that is worth passing on to others. I saw a poster up in the hospital when visiting my husband last month about it and meant to do it but forgot so will do it now you have reminded me :o)
All my family have done this for well over a year.
Yes we have done it since the London bombings which is when this advice first came out.
I've got my home number stored as home ICE thats what they normally look for in the hospitals and mum and dad are in there too.
One of my freinds cousins had her house stored under 'garr' which means house in urdu/punjabi she was in hospital for days with on one knowing because the nurses couldnt find a number to call so I made my mum and dad change our home number to home instead of just the door number (they have it stored like that because we have two houses)
my partner is listed under hubby!!!! good idea, should be national
