Hey all, wonder if you can help bit of a long story but hope you can hang in there to give me your opinion........ I stopped taking my pill approx month and half ago (have been taking it regularly for 10 yrs) so my partner and I cld try for a baby - wasnt expecting results anytime soon as had read that when coming off the pill can take upto 6 months to conceive! Anyway woke up in the middle of the night last week with terrible stomach cramps (smthin similar to period cramps only worse) and it dawned on me my period was late. Had a preg test (tesco cheapy!) in the hse which i did first thing the next morning and a faint line appeared to indicate i was pregnant! Went later that night and bought two Clear Blue digital tests and did one that night (also positive) and one with the first urine of the day the next morning (Thurs - also positive). Was still gettin terrible tummy cramps with vomitting and diah. so bkd an appt with my GP who said the V&D was nothing to worry about but wanted to preg test me again (today - Monday) to dble check i was pregnant (had had a negative result 2 weeks ago now). Left a urine sample with my doctor this morning & being concerned about the cramps which were now getting worse and being unable to get an appt with my doctor my partner and I went to our local A&E. They have also tested me this morning and the first test is negative but the second one was faintly positive! I've nausea, sore boobs, feel v tired & still have these cramps which come and go. They have referred me to the Early Preg Clinic but soonest i can get an appt is tomorrow afternoon. I dont know what to think and wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience - out of 6 tests now 4 have been positive and altho i wasnt completely over-joyed with discovering i was newly preg last week i now really want this baby :-(. Thanks for reading xo
well its very unlikely youll get a +ve result unless you are carrying the pregnancy hormone so id say that the =ves are most likely right and that you dont have enough hormone to get a good strong result.
Until you see them at the EPU you really wont know for certain.
I had period like cramps when first pregnant (about 6-7 weeks) and they were nothing to be concerned about. Of course with a dodgy stomach that wont help with any pain so rest up if you can and take it easy.
Thanks redcrx - i jst thought they wld have been able to do some other test at the hosp (like blood test) in order to tell me whether i was actually pregnant or not - as i say i still have all the symptoms. Pink-kittens im not sure of the dates which doesnt make all this any the easier to figure out im afraid!
a blood test would still only look for the hormone. The only way to tell is by giving you a scan but if only a few weeks gone there wont be a heart beat so a follow up scan might be required if the cramps dont go away or if you experience any loss of red blood or severe pains.
It might be worth bearing in mind that if they do scan you tomorrow they may need to do an internal scan as you are not far gone.
thanks again for your help redcrx - the doc had given me a due date of 7 Sept but i understood was v early days anyway - fingers crossed for tomorrow eh........
I was on the pill for 14 years and thought the same thing as you- a week and a half later I was pregnant!! So much for all the time I was going to have to get ready, lol! I now have a 15 month old and he is a joy (mostly, lol)
Congrats if you defo are and good luck!!

Dee, sorry to hear that too. Sadly these things do happen. Please try and remain positive. Have some time to yourself to recover both physically and emotionally,
