Browser Hijack - end of tether...
4 Answers
Hmmm. Where do I start? When I boot my PC media player automatically launches and my PC runs REALLY slowly. I've read on the 'net that this is normally an indication of a resident trojan. Have scanned using Ad-aware, Spybot S&D and CWShredder (latest versions) and found nothing). IE works fine, but Mozilla Firefox returns an error message about invalid proxy settings and renders me unable to browse, so I assume I've been hijacked. I've tried to install Pestpatrol but am unable to download the program (IE returns a 'page unavailable - check settings' error message). Have scoured the 'net for a solution without much success. 'Hijack this' shows a lot of suspicious items running but (whilst I am a spod) I'm not quite techie enough to identify what should be there and what definitely shouldn't. Any suggestions anyone, or can anyone recommend a geeky site where I can post the findings of Hijack This for someone far better equipped in the brains department to see what I should be getting rid of? I'm using a DELL with Windows XP Home and am on the point of throwing the entire machine through the nearest Window. At least I'd get some fresh air that way.
