ghastly woman at work
16 Answers
There is this ghastly woman at work who speaks to everyone like a piece of dirt. She thinks its funny. She is very sharp and scares me (and I mean I start shaking when she speaks to me in her sharp tone).
I am 40 and highly qualified, I am excellent at my job, so much so that I do more in my part time hours than she does in her full time hours. She is NOT above me and even works in a different office (which is very cliquey), I do however have to liaise with her regarding appointments and diary etc.
She is awful, her tone sickens me to the stomach.
I spoke to her yesterday and TODAY about it. I even phoned my boss on Sunday and told her that she was upsetting me.
When I spoke to her yesterday I said "you scare me" she said "hmmmm I scare myself too" (she is also very scary looking and dresses like a man!). She thinks it is funny and doesnt give a damn. When I spoke to her again about it today she said, "well thats me, I am not going to change for ANYONE" and hung up the extension. HOW RUDE can ANYONE BE.
Can anyone advise me. No point speaking to my boss again as I have already told her and she says - thats what she is like.
Should I approach her in the same tone ?
Best.

Sounds like a bully to me.
Dont know what your job is. But most reasonable work places have policies in place for this.
NHS and local Authorites ect.
Talk to your boss again about the anti Bullying policy and point them in this persons direction.
Explaine if it continues you would like to Explore any options open to you.
Bet some manager sits up and takes notice.
And if more than you take up this issue.
You should get satasfaction.
Another way to deal with it is everytime she comes near others and they start laughing or as she walks away.
Get her worrying. LOL.

Wey Hey. I spoke at great length yesterday with a male Director (the other is female and they are buddies). He has offered me the opportunity of a lifetime, to work from home, a few more hours yet DOUBLE the salary, he will pay my phone bill and broadband and as I have just had an office fitted in one of my bedrooms it is the answer to my prayers. It will also save me 2 hours a day travel time and my little girl is at the school right across the road from our house.
I will start this the week after next and know fully what to do next week. I will not have to liaise with her as I am moving on to a new Media Project without her being involved in what I am doing and will ignore her, (and laugh as I walk past her) as you have all kindly advised me to and then sit in the SATISFACTION that she has done me the greatest favour of all !
When she leaves I will staple a copy of all your comments into a Good Luck (with your attitude) card !
THANK YOU EVERYONE, I truly truly appreciate it.
Take Care.

Fantastic result Katie, you must thank this woman for getting you the promotion!! I agreed with most of the comments regarding bullying and just wanted to add that most bullying is about power and bullies are very insecure people who need to bring others down to below their level. If you had to remain working with her I would have advised you to not have shown any reaction to her bullying as this is what she was looking for.
Gook luck in your new position! Cheers Sue

Poor you Katie. I would feel sorry for her if I were you. She doesn't sound like a happy person. Just imagine her sitting on the loo with no clothes on when you speak to her. Or maybe that would be even scarier. I did suffer from bullying, which is what this is, at work myself. Unfortunately, unless it is affecting your work, you can't make someone be pleasant unless there is a specific company policy. Have you tried contacting the Human Resources section? I do feel this is more about boosting your confidence so that you can treat her with the contempt she deserves. Good luck anyway :)
