Basil Brush show being investigated for racism!
Well, not racism but I can't think of the word! Apparantly, he made a "Boom Boom!" joke about Gypsies or Pikies as he referred to them, stealing pegs or similar! Anyway, it's now being investigated. I think this is a ridiculous waste of time, effort and money. A Gypsy commune live just slightly out of the area where I work. If they do come into our shop (Beauty Salon) we have to follow them to the toilet, as they will pick up items on their way and steal toilet roll, cotton woll and bleach. They will even steal pencil and rubbers off the desk. They will just steal, full stop. So Mr Brush isn't wrong is he?

it is a bit silly - especially as its 6 years old now but then again stereotyping must be v annoying for the people concerned so you can understand why someone got annoyed ... though it is just once complaint so nothing to get worked up about by everyone else (someone will always have a moan)

This seems to be the extent of the 'racism' involved..quote
When she offers to tell Basil's fortune he says: "I went to a fortune teller once and he said I was going on a long journey... He stole my wallet and I had to walk all the way home." ...unquote
'A viewer complained' - ie ONE viewer out of god knows how many thousand. The appropriate response would have been to tell that viewer to f*k off and stop wasting everyone's time.

In the summer here in Milton Keynes we get loads of them all over the place. While the women are badgering you in the shopping centre with heather the men and kids are trying to break into your house. I know because we have had them try getting into our house. Some cheeky little so and so tried to convince my husband that he lived in our house when he caught him trying to get in the gate. Only when my husband pointed out it was our house did he leg it up the road to a waiting van with two other blokes in it.
But having said that it ought to be pointed out that the main culprits are what my husband calls hedge mumpers which must not be confused with real Romany Gypsies who are on the whole resonable people.

Please Le Chat, these people that live near you are NOT proper Gypsies, they may be tinkers, travellers lazy gits call them what you will but genuine Gypsies are not thieves, lazy, scrounging layabouts, they are honest hard working people who are are also very clean and respect nature, as I have said before on here I am Proud to be of Gypsy stock, very proud of where I am from. Stupid, but everyone has to be politically correct now days , even the beloved Sweep and Sue have been told off for calling Sooty, Sooty......
On a more serious note people tend to collectively term all travellers under the same banner Gypsies, , but as Ray has pointed out there are many differences which unfortunately gives the good ones a bad name ....
