G. Brown was annoyed when he found one of our remaining colonies was "not toeing the line" so he sent a junior diplomat to deal with them. He was greeted by the tribal chief as he got off the plane & as they walked to the Chief's Hut the crowd chanted "Umbala" to which the Diplomat smiled & raised his bowler. He addressed the crowd -"I come in silver bird from big white lady chief in UK" Chants of "Umbala" more smiles from Diplomat " she not happy with attitude of tribes here -"interrupted by "umbala, umbala" .." you must do better or you'll get no more beads from UK" He carried on spouting and at each pause the crowd chanted "Umbala" He smiled believing the mesage was getting through. After photographing the chief with the Tribal Bull, & had a powwow wiith the chief he departed for his plane back. As he walked out of the hut the Chief yelled "warch your shoes - mind you don't step in the umbala"
