motor mechanics FUUL TIME COLLEGE COURSER nvq ?

did any one here go on a full time year one motor mechanics course - nvq , and if so did they learn anything of any substance ???? - id i year one full time - motor vehcile mechanics ...when i was a teena ger .....although it was - full time city and guilds then.... and well , it wasnt that good the full time course ???

it was fun for me ,,,, also , even if i didnt turn up for 5-6 weeks at one time ....... multiple choice exam paper , no practical test ....... ---- but i would have learnt more m, by buying an old banger and stripping it down,,,,, we wasnt even show , how to coorect bad earth , on " faulty indicators 2 ...for example ,,,,,,,,, i should have gone on the day release ...

it was all "theory based " ...... firing orders 1342 or 1243 ........ , ------- one of the workshop cars was a 1959 ford poular ,,,,,,, , modern front wheel drive had arrived ,..... and we had a 1959 ......ford poular ..... electronc ignition had arrived ,...and radial tyres .....

Why literacy? I'm just saying that it's a bit daft to have skipped 5-6 weeks of a course then wonder why you didn't learn anything.

How did you expect to learn if you didn't show up?

squarebear ,,,, hello on returnin asfter being away from the course ,,,,,, one of my course colleagues , showed me what , they had done in my absence ,..... they said this is all you missed .... not a great deal ...... so i opied the notes ,,,,,, and i was back on track .... i was actually away for over 8 weeks ..but this was over the chrstmas period ,,... so three weeks wer not productive ,,,,,,,fpr the remaonder of the calss ,,,as it was holiday break ..xmas as i have already pointed out ,......

from what i remember of my c& g it was real basic stuff and any pratical done in a spotless workshop nothing like the real world...so much mechanics is now based around electronic fault finding rather than the old fashioned hands on approach...even body work has changed, so many bolt on plastic panels..

chas ,,,,, thats a good reply ......... spotless workshops ........ etc .... but we could have been shown , how to strip an alternator .....etc ..... ------ i should of transfered my self , on to day relaease year 1 , c and g ., ....... and sought suitable employment .....

i remember stripping alternators/starter motors, fuel pumps etc. apart from seeing how they work a pointless exercise as all garages just fit new..
I was lucky to some degree i was in the motor trade of the era when you you bought an old Ford/Vauxhall and generally tarted it up and mixed and matched from other models, learnt more that way, the modern vehicle doesnt allow much of that and most are fitted with all the toys etc. anyway..you do really need to get employed to get any real experience.

yes i agree 100 percent ..... what you say .... i was never in to trucks as a youngster ...... and my weekly placement for 3 months , wasa volvo truck garage ,....... iwas too dainty ....for it truck fitting .......

Trucks are a whole different ball game although there is more money it and at some stage they will want you to have a LGV/HGV licence and possibly pay for it..The up side to that is another career if all fails..driving lorrys!
I always wanted to be on a race team F1 , just a dream though

I did 383 C&G and that was a mix of therory and practical, as our colege was skint we spent most of our practical time fixing our own cars (great)
as for stripping alternators/starters it is impossible to get the parts for modern cars from our dealers, and in some dealers they dont even rebuild gearboxes just fit replacement units

i think mine was a a 383 or a 380 ..... c and g ., our welding tutor ..... harry ricketts bless him , if hes still live ..... used to go very red .....around the top of his head .... he was bald , as i am now in my forties ...... .......mister ricketts ... was also the head of mv studies .......he was a bit of three piece suit wearer... who i think had also been an aircraft fitter...

Does any one else think LAW must be on drugs AND wearing boxing gloves when typing? my cat sits on the key board and does better.if a person can not be bothered to take the effort or show the respect to other ABers why should we reply?
