We weighed it up as we both live and work in the city centre.
It's made a massive difference, being able to do a proper food shop (saves us a load of money on food shopping), it also helps with bulky or multiple items we wouldn't have been able to get on public transport.
We're more able to get and see friends and family more (and not relying on lifts or staying over places) and getting away for the evening, day or weekend for some quality us time together.
It's great to be able to get to medical appointments and the hospital without faffing on the bus too and not having to use public transport especially late at night.

Apart from visiting distant relatives and lugging boxes of beer back from the supermarket, yes, easily and gladly. I cycle more miles per week than drive. There is a terrific go-anywhere freedom about a bike, journey times are predictable, and you can actually take in the scenery (vital in Croydon lol)
I could
Thankfully I work within walking distance
Although the buses are only one per hour they do run into the evening
I could shop in my local supermarket and get a cab home or go shopping with my mum once a month which I do now mostly, anyway
The only time I need a car is when I go on holiday - I couldn't lug all my luggage on the bus/train
