My surgery is exactly the same Gina. I called up for an appointment at the beginning of June and was given 23rd June.
you are well behind the silly old dears who are after their placebos and the bored housewives wanting the doc to examine them for the 57th time in the last month
They need their antidepressants bob.Dunno what theyre depressed about , no work , docs apointments when they want them and free happy pills.

LIFES A BTCH INNIT?

that cant be right. All surgeries by law have to offer appointments within 48 hours for emergencies and things that have come up (ie, you wake up one morning feeling unwell and need to see a doctor) They then have to run an appointment system, but how they do that is up to them. Did you request a specific doctor or the next available routine appointment?

anyway, this system ensures that the people who need to be seen quickly, are, and those who can wait, do. Not a bad system in my opinion. If you are not really ill wh should you take up an appoint ment that somebody who IS really ill could take?
I'm probably going to get slaughtered for saying this but I think it depends on the area you live in.

bednobs it is right, if you phone or go in the receptionist asks whats wrong and then takes all the details and the doc phones you back and decides if you need to see him or not, my other doctor was great, you could phone in the morning and 99.9% guaranteed to get an appointment that day, i didnt request a particular doctor i just said any, its my first time there so dont know any docs, and who says who is the illest??
just said you werent really ill!
anyway, if it's your first booking in appointment, they have special appointments put aside for that, so that's why it will take so long
thats crazy gina and im not sure its following the guideline thingys or whatever they are. So you have to guess in advance when you may be ill as well as hanging on for dear life when you are ill?

at our docs you have to phone for an appointment on the day you want it, they see you that day (or try to) if you cant get in that day you have to phone the next day etc They will not do appointments other than for the day you ring, they say the computer system wont let them.

I had this problem when my old school had a terrible insurance carrier with an HMO that was 2 steps below the free clinic. I had a raging female problem and they could not see me for 3 weeks!!!! Now I can see a private doctor of my choosing.

I know our medical system in the US is quite different. A lot of people on AB complain about how they must wait for a doctor/dentist appt. Makes me thankful for the health plan I have. Not all in US are so lucky.

bednobs, a lady in front of mewanted to see teh doc as she has some sort of rash all over her body and she couldnt get an appointment to see til the 17th either. its my first appointment for seeing the doctor, ive had the health check and things, i want to see the doc as i am not well, when i said it s a good job im not really ill i meant im not at deaths door(well hope not) but i am ill. i was reading a leaflet while i was waiting and it said if you want the morning after pill you can get an appointment immediately, so if you fancy having sex and cant be arsed with birth control you'll be seen immediately but if youre ill, tough!!!
