When broadcasting on Radio Five Live, why can't Chris Waddle say the word 'penalty'?
He consistently says 'pelanty', but nobody seems to pass comment or correct him.

Far more irritating to me is how ever news reporter on any TV or radio station pronouces the word 'secretary' as 'sec-a-terry', which is patently incorrect - that should be corrected because it is lazy speech, not an impediment.

My son has a disability called Dyspraxia (not Dyslexia) and he has problems saying some words correctly.
He always says "pentalny" when he means penalty.
He plays football computer games on his PS3 and when there is a bad foul he often shouts out "pentalny".
Maybe Waddle has a similar disability or other speech problem.

LOL y-cymro: I'm sure Pleat does it on purpose - he listens carefully to how everyone else pronounces a name, and then works out how many variations he can come up with during a match. Either that, or he's just pig ignorant. Hmmm...it's a tricky one.
I have trouble pronouncing February correctly - I'm careful not to miss out the middle r and say Feb-YOO-ary, but as a result the second half of the word kind of falls out of my mouth and makes me sound like a dribbling twonk.
