my brother came home today to be told by my mother that the police had been on the phone and that he was to report to the local police station by 11.30 pm tonight to be interviewed and have his car ceased and crushed beacause apparently or so the police say there was witnesses to say he had been speeding the previous night. The police did not see him speeding themselves and are going liturally by what witnesses have supposidly reported to them. My brother was not speeding or driving where the police are sayin the witnesses told them an he himself has many witnesses to say he wasnt including his girlfriend who was in the car with him at the time. the police have been constantly on his back ever since he passed his test in april this year stopping him about 15 times so far to do 'checks'.And each time he is never charged with anything. It seems as if they have taken a dislike to him from the moment he passed his test. He was even stopped twice in one night by the same police man just for checks! What i wanted to know is can he actually have his car ceased and crushed simply by just supposid witnessessayin he did something and not the actual police seeing him doing it. He never did it and its causing a lot of upset because he never seems to get a minutes piece from the police. Also does he have to report to the police station, he is not well has work at 6.30 in the morning, surely if the police want to see him and take his car off him they should be making the effort to come and see him at our home. He is only 19 and me and my mum arent very clued up with the police and there laws, can anyone help and give me some advice? many thanks

Has he checked that this isn't a windup by his friends?
Yes it's a wind up. Must be.

The police do not crush cars for speeding anyway, and if there was a reason to take it (no tax, uninsured) they'd just do it.
Report to a Police Station at 11:30 pm on a a Saturday night? When they are up to their necks with drunks and street brawlers?

Of course it is a wind-up!!

I absolutely agree with the others, Gina, the police don`t work that way (phoning your mother like that)

Question Author
oh and also i have a feeling who one of these people are who i think have reported him. an ex girlfriend who has tryed to get him done for alot of things was seen following him last night i wouldnt put it past her
Maybe this thread is the wind-up then?
It's a wind up. As stated too busy for traffic violations on a Sat night. Relax gina.
Where I live it's rare to find a police station that's manned at that time of night!

Is the station in the small village where you live, gina?
This can be easily verified by phoning the police station and asking to speak to the officer concerned.Get the phone number out of the phone book,do not phone any number the "officer" gave you as a contact number.
one word for you

dont have kids unless you can control the,?

i wish it was a wind up but i still have to be at the police atation for 11.30 tonight its not the first time either my bro had on two other occasons been told to report to a police atation at rediculous times. once i had to be there for 10pm and thry kept him in answering questions for over and hour and a half!madness
He should not answer any questions without a solicitor being present.

You do NOT have to go to a police station if you are not under arrest. The police cannot compel anyone to attend a police station for interview unless they are on bail or under arrest. Don't go.

sorry cant keep up with the replies!:) no he hasnt had any previous convictions. so can i just tell him he isnt going to attend tonight and if they want to see him they will have to arrange a time suitable to come and see him. he is scared of the police which is why im trying to sort things
So you live in a small village and they have a cop shop open late at night. Not only that, a small village and they can't get to see you you.

Know what, I don't think it is a wind up after all - I think you are.
