you couldn't make it up. It's union loonies that got us the the "sick man of Europe" moniker in the 70's, what a shower of sh1t, Gordon must be loving it! So why are they such a bunch of selfish crackpots?

their bosses get almost unlimited pay despite the rubbish service they provide, and you criticise the workers?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7516339.stm
jno, is that the RMT Bosses or the Rail bosses or perhaps both?

Quite how your argument answers R1's question I dont know. What has the pay of any bosses got to do with it? R1 is clearly questioning the timing of such a demand which given the current climate shows the sheer arrogance or maybe ignorance of the Union concerned.
sorry, I would have thought the parallel was quite clear. They see their bosses are selfish crackpots and decide they would like their share. I have always found that where the bosses are less greedy, so are their workers.
Rotas Geezer?

the article said that it centred on whether Safety Asessments should be voluntary or not!

Are you just listening to one side of the argument by any chance?

I think you still miss the point of timing.

The country is in crisis, thousands will loose their jobs and they want more money. I am not disputing the fact the Rail bosses are greedy, I actually agree with you but I dont see why someone should think they will get more at this particular moment in time. Remmeber many of the people being put out of work will be commuters so revenue will drop not increase.
I think you still miss the point of what the issue is.

There is a disagreement here with one side saying that it's an issue of safety.

Or do you think that safety on the railways should be allowed to slide in times of economic crisis?
Unions do very good and valuable work (most times) and sometimes striking is the only way to bring attention to something.

I bet the bosses are laughing whatever....

just quoting the RMT jake.

The point here is that surely all this is like poking tarzan with a stick whilst he's fighting a lion!

No doubt there are some fat cats earning a few bob, and maybe the comrades have a point but why now when we are all up sh1t creek? that's what I'm saying.
the credit crisis has been with us for more than a year now. It is getting worse, of course, but at what point do you think it crossed from 'ok for bosses to hand themselves massive bonuses' to 'wicked for staff to take action'? Personally I would have said the bonuses were always wrong, given the poor level of service for which they're being rewarded. Either the way, my point still stands: if workers see bosses getting away with greed, they'll want to try it themselves. If management can't restrain themselves, why should staff? And that's my answer to the original question.
On the disagreement, I tend to agree with the management that safety assessment should be compulsory. The management were quite wrong to rip up existing agreements and impose the new rostas. That is why the union is striking now and not six months ago or six months in the future.

If your employer told you you were working sunday evening from now on, you would not be happy. The banking crisis is totally irrelevant in this case.

correct Gromit I'd probably not like to have to work Sunday but hey when I am unhappy in a job I get another job, tada! It aint hard is it.
That's very defeatist of you R1Geezer.
Lets solve this by giving the sweaties total devolution. Then if they want to strike fine, not my problem.

Whatever is said this smacks of the 70's "No bog roll in the karsi - all out brothers".

Clicked on this post by mistake.

I thought it said "onions".

When you read the guys like this, the head of Lehman Brothers, took home 300 MILLION dollars in pay and bonuses the last 8 years you can understand why ANY union would be annoyed.

I know it is different industry and all that, but these bosses (in all industries) seem to pay themselves huge bonuses for no reason whatsoever.

I don't think it''s defeatest Gromit, why would you stay in a job that you didn't like? Just get one you do like, I sometimes wonder why they need unions at all.
