What is a good dehumidifier to buy?

Hi guys,

We have a pretty large 4 bedroom detached house, in a couple of rooms (which we don't use atm) there is an odd smell. There is no sign of damp or mould in either of these two rooms, one is downstairs and the other is upstairs above the other problem room. There is no sign of cracks in wall or rising damp which we can see. We've scrubbed the floorboards and repainted neither helped. The smell didn't go or fade (imo) during the summer, so I got a buildery type friend to have a look. He suggested trying a dehumidifier to see if that helps, but We've no idea what type or which to buy.

We've been to B&Q and they have a few models and I haven't got the faintest idea what would be a good one to get or size. Our house is of solid wall construction so having one to control the moisture in the house would also be beneficial.

get one that is small, easier to move about! also a quiet model is better if you want to leave it on over night some can be quite noisy
Think they all have a feature on them that when the box thing is full it switches off
