reckons not.
Anyone know the truth?

Savile realised that if he played records, he could pocket the fee paid to a band for himself.
He soon realised that stop-starting the atmosphere by changing records was not ideal, so he set up two record players and switched the sound from one to another.
If Savile was - as he claimed - the first person to adopt the twin turntable set up, then he can indeed claim to be the inventor of the modern disco system.
The first night-club that was custom-built - as opposed to being a converted dance hall, as most were - was The Place nightclub which opened in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent in 1963.
